HONOR GUARD
NOTICE: HONOR GUARD FUNERALS ARE NOW BEING PERFORMED ON LIMITED BASIS.
WE ARE PLEASED TO PROVIDE GRAVE-SIDE HONORS FOR THOSE VETERANS HAVING PASSED DURING COVID-19.

- The General Smedley D. Butler Detachment #741 of the Marine Corps League in Newtown Square, PA
The complete service requires ten veterans as follows:Seven Riflemen who will fire 3 volleys while supervised the Honor Guard Commander.

One presents the Flag & Presidential Memorial Certificate Request Form
One Bugler who will play "taps" or sometimes referred to as "Butterfield's Lullaby" after the 3 volleys have been firedOne to recite “In Flanders Fields” and place a poppy on the casket
After the friends and family place their flowers, the Honor Guard provides the "Last Salute" with Present Arms, Order Arms, and Dismissed. This service is voluntary and the Alliance has provided Honor Guard services in Delawre County for as many as 300 veterans in a year. A full staffing is not always available and we will perform our fellow comrade's service with honor using available volunteers. The services, by request to the Funeral Director, may be supplemented with 2 active duty soldiers or officers (depending upon deceased's last rank attained) for flag folding and presentation. All coordination is to be done between the loved ones and the Funeral Director who will coordinate with our Alliance Funeral Services' Officer-in-Charge.

Note: There is no charge to the Veterans Family for the services performed. All Honor Guard members are volunteers, but donations to the Post and Detachment are accepted and appreciated. Checks may be made payable to "Marple Memorial Post 805 of the American Legion." Your donation will be used to support our Honor Guard services and serve our area Veterans.
